SITUATION

A large pharmaceutical company is pursuing a global indication in a rare disease therapeutic area. As part of defining the market environment, there is a need to to understand patients’ complicated and varied journeys through different global healthcare systems.

APPROACH

  • A multi-modal qualitative approach in the US and several global markets that included In-depth interviews and focus groups

  • Augmented by online patient journals and unique projective techniques

  • Conducted among a hard-to-reach patient population, globally!

RESULTS

  • We brought to life patients’ intimate experiences, perspectives, emotions surrounding living with this rare disease including a deep understanding of:

    • Various points in their journey from origination to presentation, referral, diagnosis, brand choice, etc.

  • Pinpointed patient unmet needs and other leverage points

  • Created a brief video illustrating patients’ life with the disease using candid patient verbatim

IMPACT

  • Uncovered an unrecognized need for HCP-focused resources to support faster diagnosis, earlier treatment and peer collaboration

  • Provided clear direction for communications that would speak to patients' isolation, frustration and offer hope in potential treatment
